These coins are not expensive to obtain and the bills were mass produced as well. You can find those Japanese Peso bills, actually called Fiat Peso, in several denominational notes from 1 to 1000, rather a cheaply. While I can’t say that they were going to be used in Hawaii, they were originally manufactured to be used in the Philippines. The likelihood that would have been used in Hawaii, is rather small, due to the fact, Japan issued different notes for the different territories it conquered. For instance Burma was also under Japanese control during WWII and they were issued Rupees, not Pesos. I don’t recall the whole stamp vs non stamp difference, but it could be that the ones stamped were sent to or arrived in the Philippines and the ones that were not, never left Japan. If you really want historically significant money related to Hawaii in WWII, you can find US Dollars that was printed with brown die and stamped on the back with HAWAII. These note were made in the event that Japan did try to take Hawaii and then the US government could say all those Hawaii notes were worthless. **Q: How are this authentic if those steel pennys are only around 30 in existence right now** A: The 1943 steel penny was made in abundance.
