I use it to square the ends of bezel wire and it works well. I have had no trouble moving the sections. As with any new tool there can be a learning curve. However, with this tool I had no problems and it worked perfectly. **Q: Absolutely no information as how to use.** A: Piece of crap don't bother. I took a chance and regret it. The first time I tightened it down the nut stripped Sometimes the higher price does matter. **Q: I can’t open it, any tips?** A: Mine had a protective oil covering to it which made the sections kind of stick together. After loosening up the screws on top to leave a gap between them and the vice, hold the jig at the base. Use other hand to pull upward with fingers on both sides. After you get one section up, the other section is easy. The surfaces are flush with each other so it seems a bit tricky at first. **Q: Are there instructions available anywhere? I can’t figure out how to use it.** A: Jigs like this are based on having the body of the jig be a harder steel than the tools normally used to cut and trim the jewelry metal. This includes jeweler's saw blades and files. Place your silver, gold, or other jewelry metal in the slot that corresponds to its shape and the angle you want to cut it at. tighten down the jig's screws to hold the metal snugly. It's best to clamp the jig in a bench vise to hold it while cutting the metal. Saw with your jeweler's saw down the face of the jig and through the metal to be cut. If the end is rough or uneven, use a jeweler's file lightly across the face of the jig to remove excess metal and leave a flush, smooth surface. Remove the metal from the jig and the cut will be smooth and at the desired angle. The screw tapping is clean, the parts move. I will clean up the packing grease and it should move a bit easier. The finish on the screw heads and the jig itself are clean and functional. It’s an overall good device and the amount I will use it doesn’t justify paying twice the price. What you’re giving up for a budget price is; the device has a hairline gap on one side when I put the pieces back into battery. For the price, I can live with this minor imperfection.
