I have a few knives with more square edges on the bolster, which this seems to be able to hold. But as I said, most of my knives are not like this, and they fall to the bottom plate, which damages the front of the knife and is dangerous. It can hold the knives upright if they are resting with their points on the metal bottom, but that isn't ideal, and is not what I bought. Definitely one of my worst Amazon purchases.
