I strapped one of these bad boys to my patio railing and the birds have wholly ignored it. OK to be fair, sometimes they do fly close to it to check it out but it has officially scared off nothing. The plus side is that these paper birds also come with a strip of...holographic plastic? It has a little sticky strip at one end that you can attach to just about anything. Along with the paper bird I also attached one of these strips to the patio ceiling.
