The bristles are firm. If you're a big baby, this is not the brush for you. If you like to feel like you've removed dead skin from your body and have greatly increased blood flow and circulation to areas that don't get much, this IS the brush for you. I use this from neck to foot and everywhere in between. I have this hanging from a double hook in my shower away from the spray with the bristles pointing down. I haven't had any bristle loss.
