I loved that there were lyrics within the story to help us envision Maude and Matt. Maude is such a strong character in this sweet sad story of an orphan who is treated as a maid. By the age of sixteen Maude has learned how to manipulate things and was able to go to Paris, not knowing her world is about to change. Maude has had her fair shares of pain, isolation and denial, she uses music as a comfort; the lyrics are amazing. Maude must face betrayals, misunderstandings, triumph and a whole new world full of wonder and surprises, and face new challenges. I love how Maude and Matt meet the first time and how from the first moment she didn’t hold back. I loved Matt and Maude’s banter and how easy it was for them to just be them, how they were drawn to one another even though they didn’t realize it. I loved Matt in this story, he is a handsome, famous, intelligent yet caring young musician who grows within the story. I especially loved the twist in the end, I wasn’t expecting it. This is a story about a young intelligent woman finding the courage to fight for what she wants and taking a risk. Its about finding her place in life, a place she belongs and able to finally live. This story is full of new beginnings, friendships, betrayals, love, family, redemption, challenges, courage, misunderstandings, secrets, meglect and success. I loved it! Should I fall in love? Don’t mind if I do! But don’t let the cover fool you as it did me because that isn’t what this story is at all and I adored this book because of it.After the first couple of chapters, it seemed like it was going to be an enjoyable modern remake of Cinderella, but it was so much better than that. The story about Maude’s life going from ordinary to extraordinary had a tastefully done, but subtle love triangle, anger, jealousy, sacrifices, lies, deceit, and betrayal, strong sibling bonds, acceptance, fear, protectiveness, family bonds, deep pain and struggles, truth coming to light after a time of darkness, and so much more, all gracefully spun into one book.I appreciated and enjoyed how Anna Adams mixed opera and pop songs together with respectful elegance and managed to capture each character’s inner thoughts and emotions, switching smoothly between each character from an omniscient point-of-view. I was utterly shocked and rather disappointed when I found out that this is a series. I felt that this book was good just on its own, without adding any other scenarios or issues to bother poor Maude. This book is AMAZING.it mixes up all the different genres in book history, comedy,Drama, Romance, Adventure, part Mystery, Suspence.....I love this book because it's interesting. Its about this girl who lives in northern France and is sixteen and lives with her awful foster parents. Then one day with her school, she travels to Paris for a day. She stops at a cafe and gets invited on stage. She's been playing the piano and singing for five years, she foes one stage and sings an Edith PiafSong. In the audience is a music guy who makes people famous or whatever and he makes her sign a record deal. She has to move to New York for six months though. She gladly leaves her evil foster parents house and goes to New York, thats where she writes her first album. The famous making guy is named James Baldwin and takes her in with his family, wife, 18 year old daughter, 16 year old daughter, and 11 year old son. She falls in love, and drives down the road of fame. Its an amazing book about friendship, loyalty, and trust. Then she tries to learn about her dead parents, only to find a startling discovery about them, and the Baldwin family. An amazing book, I would not recommend to 8 and under. I would say 9 and up. Very good. Incredible. Highly recommend. LOVE IT!!! I can't wait to get the next book. Anna Adams Is an amazing novelist, for tweens and teens.
