Few things to keep in mind: First, even the slightest separation between magnet and metal will substantially reduce the force of attraction. A thin layer of plastic (plastic wrap!) drops the holding force by about 50% to 75%. Second, if you are using a thinner metal than the one provided the force of attraction will be reduced. How much will depend on the thickness of the metal.
