There are two red strings in the box. If you throw those away, this is terribly hard to start, so I can see why people would have trouble. You put the end of the red string into the hole on the yellow ball, turn the ball one full turn and then pull the red strings like a rip-cord. This starts the ball action. It’s perfect.
