This product does require TEAMWORK to work well. I think that for an older toddler that you are training to walk with you in crowded places, this is a wonderful item. If you child would pull on you, not understand or be able to stay on task to walk alongside you, the cloth straps attaching the wire to the cuff would likely break (as other reviewers have testified). My child knows that these are her freedom to walk with me, so that I can read a food label or load a conveyor belt. If she pulls on them or tries to walk in a direction against where we need to go, I place her back in the grocery cart or carry her. Since using these just a few times, she willingly and happily walks besides me. We are both much happier. I don't have to worry that she would be easily snatched up or separated from me if I were to take my eyes off of her in the store. She wants to be very independent and will never hold our hands. She always wants to walk by herself. She is also getting too heavy to carry all the time, and she sees a stroller as a torture device. However, when we got her a new "special bracelet," she has been excited to wear it when we go out. We have used this twice so far, once at busy mall on a holiday weekend and also at a busy Christmas village. She gets to walk around with a little freedom but remains next to us. If she wants to stray a little farther, she can, and it is nice not to have to remind her to not go too far. This has made going out with her much less stressful. The straps are very comfortable to wear and the hardware seemed to hold up quite well to the strain of a two year old running and stretching it to the max. The double closure system for the child also makes me feel more comfortable that she will not slip through the strap.
