We read the books together and also make the recipes.We love Argueta's lyrical descriptions, and also the child-centered illustrations with quirky details.We bought copies of all Argueta's books to donate to our elementary school library. The pictures are large, in fact one page size, with muted colors.The authors poetry is short but it is sweet as each step of making bean soup is explained. What I liked most about this, as with his other books, is that the poetry is in Spanish and English.I think that is truly wonderful for children who are bilingual or those children who may be learning a second language.Now, I want to go make some bean soup! The author does caution, as I do, for kids to make soup with the help of an adult.Awesome book and well worth the read. 4 stars.Disclosure: I purchased a copy of this book for my own collection.
