Yes, it's plastic, not aluminum, and the finish on the silver is underwhelming, but it gets the job done for 10% of the price; I can put a brushed finish with clear coat on for another 20-30 bucks, and still be under 20% of the BMW alternative. The cushion cover for the storage area is actually BETTER than the BMW one in my opinion (my BMW one came off on the freeway, because the cushion cover kept coming loose, and while trying to put it back with my butt, I knocked it right off the bike). Someone said that the seat bumpers, or other plastic, will break if you over-tighten the mounting screw.
