Ann-Louise Kansha Alchemy **Q: How come it contains both iron and zinc when it is known that Zinc and iron interact competitively during intestinal absorption?** A: Hello Thank you for your question. Both these ingredients are included not just because of their beneficial effects on hair growth but also because of their interaction with other ingredients where they act as 'co-factors'. This means they enable key ingredients to do their job more effectively. Good Hair is a complicated and sophisticated formula where all these ingredients work together like this. I was adamant that we had to have Zinc in the formula but not so adamant about Copper and Iron. We took the Copper out because this is rarely deficient but kept the Iron because of how it works mostly with other ingredients. You will see there is not a lot of iron in this formula because I believe it is notoriously difficult to absorb anyway (and needs Vit C to do so). Where Zinc and Iron are not inter-acting with each other exclusively, the competition for absorption you mention is not intense or even noticeable. If they were individual supplements in higher doses, there maybe a cause for concern, but like this and with our chemists working on the formula with me, we did not see this as a concern whatsoever. A vitamin complex or multi-vitamin mimics (somewhat) the complexity of food or nature. A single dose vitamin or even just two, are totally different to how the body would digest in nature and most of the studies on this type of disturbance of absorption you mention are done on single dose studies.
