Nikwax MUST be applied to an unfatigued, clean, damp material, i.e., Gor-Tex. with no dirt or soapy residue present. It is a Water 'Based' Product which basically means that once the material dries completely, only the 'Waterproofing' element of the Nikwax product remains and it is this that repels any moisture/wet. However, each time you wear the boots, a little of the Nikwax protection is worn off whether by abrasion or wear and tear and as such, you need to repeat the Reproofing process accordingly. This could be as little as every six weeks for daily walking/hiking through wet terrain, or sooner if you notice dampness, i.e., on your socks.
