You then could have the problem of dull brass underneath a lacquer finish and you won't be able to polish up the brass to restore the gleam. Also, if you decide you don't like the appearance you could have a devil of a job removing the lacquer from any recesses and fine detail etc - and this would involve the use of toxic substances such as paint thinners or similar. I wouldn't lacquer brass myself (and it will look strange and not traditional at all).If you really wanted to do this, I can't recommend Hycote lacquer as it is so slow to dry (my guitar body still has not dried properly). You could try cellulose clear lacquer - try automotive paint suppliers who will make you up an aerosol can.
