Cacao is a complex food. It contains fibre, iron, calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin C and E and at least 300 other identifiable chemical compounds and a 1,000 more chemical constituents, Cacao also contains Serotonin, Tryptophan, Anandamide, Phenylethlamine, Dopamine, PEA and MAO inhibitors which all apparently have a positive uplifting effect on brain chemistry. They are dry and crunchy with a nutty tang but they aren't sweet - I prefer them soaked or cooked in porridge and use them in sauces and stews - Are they a Superfood?
