This little guy was only 3.4lbs and you could feel every bone in his body. He arrived with Ol' Roy soft dog food. I was told he wouldn't eat hard food, but we found a lot of plaque on his teeth and combined with his low weight, I knew he had to have both hard food and a better quality food.I had the quality hard food, but he wouldn't eat it. As a suggestion from our vet, I ordered a case of the Royal Canine Mature Canned Dog Food and would take about a tablespoon and mix it well into about a 1/4 cup of hard food. It was just enough to coat it and boy did this dog go to town. It stinks to high heaven but it did it's job - it stimulated this guy's appetite and he couldn't get enough.I did this routine for every meal - 4x per day for about 2 weeks or so. I always have food and water down for our other dog, and at the point the new Yorkie began eating the hard food from the bowl without the Royal Canin mixed in, I knew we were headed in the right direction. I began to put less and less Royal Canin in and eventually he was 100% hard food.We've had his teeth cleaned and he's gained about 2 pounds filling him out nicely so that we no longer feel all his bones. Royal Canine helped our new little guy eat hard food which got him more nutrition, helped him put on weight, and is better for his teeth. I have so much left in the case that 1x per week I split a can between our two dogs and they lap it up like it's the best thing they've ever had. It was $1.99 so I figured I didn't have much to lose and bought it. When I got home I fed it to my little Shih Tzu and she lapped it up. The appetite stimulate really works. Now she is back to eating twice a day. I believe it saved her life!I noticed someone gave the dog food a bad review because there was a fatty substance on the top and bottom of food. It requires him to eat wet food, but I’ve found that most wet foods are overly moist and thick causing it to stick to his very narrow airway (aka can’t breath) causing him to struggle to eat. This kind is more dry and much easier for him to break apart and eat. We went through at least 30 different kinds of wet food.. different flavors, brands, consistencies and ingredients. Once we finally tried royal canine he loved it! He eats it all and usually can in one sitting without choking!
