VOX amPlug2 LEAD AP2-LD Guitar Headphone Amplifier
This is brilliant for the size and the price, really can't recommend it highly enough. I was initially undecided between the Classic Rock and the Metal version, so I did a lot of research on youtube and read some other reviews online at which point I went for the lead version! and I made the right choice. Its got that great 80s metal sound, Van Halen, Ratt etc get the tone up, the mid boost and stick it on the delay channel and - boom- away you go with Eruption!. There is a lot packed into this little beauty, 3 effects channels - chorus (very good) Delay (excellent) and Reverb (not bad) Once out of effects it has a nice dry rock sound when you wind the gain up. Each effect has a further 3 settings so you can dial in how much you want of each, its a bit fiddly getting it to shift about on these settings as it requires hitting the effects button 2 or 3 times to get them to change - I'd have a look at that for the AMPlug 3, maybe a separate button to press? Anyway Ive got this on headphone so no disturbing the neighbours but I can also plug it directly into the monitor set up I have for my PC, no software needed just get the jack out of the back of the PC and stick it in the headphone socket of the amplug for even more volume! It has an AUX 3.5mm input too which means you can plug your phone into it apparently (and other gear?) so you can run backing tracks, I havent tried this yet so can't speak for how good it is- or not. You can obviously plug it into your PC and run it through recording/plug in studio software, I would imaging this would be a great piece of kit if youre gigging and you need to warm up pre show without making too much noise or disturbing band members or confusing drummers. It has a variety of sounds depending on your guitar so you can go from nice blues on your neck pickup to dirty fat sleaze on the bridge, I was surprised at how effective the gain is, you dont have to wind it up full to get distortion, if you want sustain for lead playing then yes it really helps to have it on full. There are also 2 mid boost settings you get by pressing the on switch once or twice, the green on light turns to amber and then red to let you know where you are. Definitely chose the right version for me, I can noodle away till my heart is content and also know that it has the variety to crank the riffs and rhythm tracks out too. Can't speak highly enough of this for the price. Only drawbacks I would say are that it goes through batteries super quick, Im getting 6 to 8 hrs off one set, which for me is 2 or 3 sessions but I haven't been using great quality batteries so maybe I need to get some heavy duty energiser/duracells in it. The other thing is, it is quite light and plasticky so I doubt it would stand up to a good clout with anything, play sat down or stood up but don't move around too much lest you knock it on a door jamb or the wife! :Like I say, small gripes. If you're just wanting to get back into playing and don't want to spend £100s on a rig, I'd go for this, it has certainly tidied my playing up and made me more accurate as it magnifies every misstep but yeah, a bundle of joy for a small price.

Seriously good value
Very impressive!! Can't believe how good this sounds for the money. I needed something that did the job for travelling to practice on the go, or when the wife kicks me out the office when she's working. This does just that. Great tones for only $35 is unbelievable. I got the Lead version, perfect for any hard rock like 80's hair metal, or even can get a good thrash tone. The Fx can also create a good lead tone with some reverb. It's not gonna dial in the perfect tone for a studio recording, but that's not what it's for. Perfect for getting something that's more than usable for practice sessions. What an eera we live in when gear like this is so affordable

The perfect solution for being able to pick up and play
Really awesome product, I bought the Lead version. Easy to use, just slap in the supplied batteries, plug into your guitar, attach a pair of headphones and you're rock and rolling. Lots of strong effects, great for everything from clean guitar, to blues, to heavy metal. Has a few nice delay effect options too. I leave this plugged into my SG now and the guitar on my stand, and headphones hanging off one of the guitar cutouts. Perfect solution to being able to pick and play with minimal fuss. Highly recommended!

Good
Being a tiny headphone amp, I wouldn't expect the sound be amazing. There are three modes, and several effects. Although I expected these effects to be gimmicky, they sound decent and are totally useable. The three modes are clean, blues, and lead, so only the final mode is the lead, though this provides the gain I want, so yes, this DOES have a clean mode. Originally, I had the big chunky nux (I think) headphone amp, but wanted an improvement, and I'm happy I got this. This is smaller, has better sound and overall looks better, though I'd say the build quality could be better.

Can’t figure out how to change back to clean sound
Mine arrived perfectly fine with everything working, it looks great. The effects worked, distortion was good, easy to use, plugs in easily but I can’t figure out how to change the tone back to clean
