Fully IEEE 802.3 compliant, it supports auto-negotiation for hassle-free plug-and-play deployment, enabling stable gigabit transmission up to 100 meters over copper or extended distances with fiber. Ideal for professional environments seeking reliable, flexible network expansion with real-time status monitoring.

## Description

From the manufacturer Plug and Play Design Connect Your Own Devices to the Fiber Network MC220L easily converts fiber data to Ethernet cable data with a SFP module. Your existing devices, such as general routers, switches, access points, servers, and desktops can connect simply to the fiber network. Long-Range PtP Connections with Fiber Long-range point-to-point connections are easily built with the gigabit fiber converters. It makes them ideal for connecting the network in other buildings, remote surveillance system, and access points upstairs. Multiple Office, Business and Surveillance Scenarios Fast and Simple Installation Flexible Mounting Options MC220L can be installed on a standalone desktop, mounted to the wall, or inserted into a central chassis to save space. Broad Compatibility with SFP Modules MC220L is compatible with most SFP modules. The maximum transmission distance, fiber type, wavelength depends on the SFP module. Versatile Connections for Broad Compatibility Stable Transmission without Speed Loss Visualized LED Indicators Fully compatible with 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet networks. The fiber media converter supports auto negotiation to bridge different speed networks and devices to a Gigabit fiber network. The stability of gigabit fiber transmission help stable transmission without any loss of speed. LED indicators provide real-time status to monitor network activity easily.

Review: Basic gigabit media converter that doesn't break the bank - Turns out, the fibre itself is stupid cheap these days. Particularly OS2. I was quite shocked to find out that it's cheaper than Cat 5e. Copper price and everything. What's great about OS2 and not so great about OM(whatever) is that a single strand of fibre can do duplex. Pretty much like any full fibre ISP, albeit without the passive element. I'm also quite unfortunate that the only decent way of routing my networking is underneath my kitchen furniture. By itself isn't a problem until that realisation that high power appliances, such as an oven or an electric hob may pose some challenges to the feeble ethernet that's prone to inductive currents. While shielding and grounding is a thing, there are limits to how close one can safely get next to a high voltage line. That's great about light: it doesn't really care about EM interference. You can't induct a current in a plastic core in a fibre. Add a couple of duplex SFP receivers (they can be found pretty cheap elsewhere). These BiDi receivers use 1310/1550nm light for RX/TX and they are sold in A/B pairs as the TX wavelength one one side is the RX on the other and viceversa. Cue this media converter on one side and Ubiquiti equipment on the other. It works as expected with ONTi transceivers and devices such as UDM Pro or ER-X SFP. Essentially, this enabled me to use fibre as my home core networking. The beauty about OS2 is that I only need to upgrade the transceivers to suport SFP+ if I ever need something like 10 gigabit or more. For the time being, benefitting from the economies at scale for fibre gigabit, this shall do. So far, I can't fault this media converter. It even worked with a RJ45 SFP adapter, albeit that was for testing purposes as something acting as a two port switch is kinda silly.
Review: Great product - Used for fibre we've run between the house and garden office. Works excellent

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this compatible with all sfp modules? And does it convert between Ethernet and fibre in both directions?**
A: You need an ethernet compatible SFP, but given that it should work. I used random ones. Translation goes both ways, I guess that's in the nature of how ethernet works. I had a few of these die within a couple of years and hence am not too happy with them, but to be fair that nay have been due to the radiation environment we operated them in.

**Q: Is this tp link mm220l a version 3 or a version 4**
A: Hi,

It should be Version 4 now.

Thanks.

**Q: Does this have a UK plug or just 2 pin requiring an adapter?**
A: Mine came with both

**Q: what does this link actually do? will it increase download and upload speeds?**
A: This product is a media converter. A media converter converts from one medium to another, in this case from fibre optic cable (which is typically the input to the house) to cat5 cable via an rj-45 connentor. If the fibre link speed is 10M then but the ethernet (cat5) network is 100M the you will be limited to 10M into the network from out of the house but the network will still be 100M. In short it will not in itself increase upload and download speeds. I had 100M fibre into my flat and converted this onto my internal 100M/1G cable network. It worked very well.
