The recommendation is that these be used every thirty cups or so, but given that I'd had my machine for several years with no noticeable deterioration in delivery of the drink, I won't be doing this. I bought a box of five capsules that came with a comprehensive multi-language instruction leaflet. There are several safety warnings about handling the capsules. Make sure the water tank is full, as you will need a lot of water. They are used just in the same way as a standard capsule, with the difference that the button for an espresso is pressed first, to deliver a foaming cup of cleaning liquid. After waiting for one minute, the lungo button is pressed, then the used capsule is dropped in to the capsule container like any other. I used the used cleaning liquid dispensed by the machine to clean two stained cups before pouring it down the sink, it worked beautifully. You will then need to repeatedly flush the machine by running it without a capsule in. Even after dispensing some 400 ml of water a cup of fruit tea had a slight white film. The taste wasn't affected, but do be aware. I haven't noticed any positive or negative changes in flavour or dispensing speed. I followed the instructions and cleaned the used capsule container carefully afterwards, disposing of the capsule carefully.
