The reason is that Northrup is not just a very good photographer with years of experience, but he is also a very good teacher. Some reviewers have criticised the book as not being good enough for the professional photographer; as I see it he has aimed it at the beginner who has been on the road for a little while (like myself) but who now wishes to take the next step. And this is the strength of the book as it is deliberately set out in practical well paced lessons with the accompanying videos which bring the text to life. It’s a pleasure to read, to browse through, to savour. I will never be a professional photographer, but with the help of Northup’s book, I’m becoming more confident each time I press the shutter.
