If you unscrew it and turn it off after it vacuums, it will help save the life of the battery. I do not bother I’ve only had to charge mine once In the past couple weeks. I wish this product had a hinge on one side instead of two flaps it allows you to take the whole thing off but every time I try to lift it on one side to get a scoop the whole top comes undone. It’s not an big deal just something that would make this product even a little better for me. It does come with the food scoop. The size of the scoop seems to be an odd feeding size it holds 3/4 of a cup . I tried to get support from the manufacturer to replace the lid but the support window on Amazon has closed. Very disappointed.Bought this to keep the 10 lb bags of Royal Canin dog food we buy fresher for longer, as our dachshund eats less than 1 c per day. The first time we opened a new bag to fill the container, there was about 1 lb left over that didn’t fit. Kind of annoying but just using the leftover up first before going into the container for feedings. Sharing here as storage capacity may vary depending on food brand. Otherwise the vacuum seal function seems to work fine.
