One cup of water and approx 1/4 cup of butter or margarine. Bring to a boil then drop in the packet of stovetop. I've used this for over 30 years and have developed some alternative ideas. I typically first Sauté half an onion in butter, then I add the water and the butter. And occasionally I'll add a small handful of finely chopped celery, then when at a boil add the packet. This question was about the Stovetop Chicken variety. With the Stovetop cornbread product I recall that it calls for a bit more water in the mix. For both products, once you've added the packet of Stovetop, then stir lightly to ensure it's wet throughout. Then let it sit for about 5 minutes, then whisk it up with a fork.
