I wouldn't bother unless your water pressure is very weak. On full blast the water comes out so hard it was hurting my head. I put the restrictor back in. **Q: What are the lithium batteries for?** A: Huh??? Nowhere does it state in listing that it requires batteries. **Q: Is there a way to know when its time to change the filter?** A: Actually yes. You'll know when it needs to be replaced because the flow of the water will decrease. In general the manufactor recommends replacing it every 6 months with your average 10,000 gallon usage. Main reason I purchased this filter was for the chlorine smell reduction and it does a pretty good job at that. Having said that, I will more than likely replace it every 4 months because the Chlorine really get's to me while showering and it's a great neutralizer for that. I hope this helps. **Q: Will this help with rust/iron issues? It's turning my grout and everything orange.** A: I don't think i understand your question , is the culligan wall mount causing rust /iron issues? It isn't for me , so i don't know what is going on or why the filter would be doing that or the chrome itself shouldn't be. However due to the heavier head the mounting bracket tends to sag beneath the weight, causing the head to tilt down. I've tried tightening the clamp but may have to invest in another riser rail/clamp.
