Works from quite a distance and it definitely wakes me up to help me help my dad. I can't speak to the battery life, but the connectivity and range are really great and you actually have a choice of ringtones which is kind of funny that I chose just the doorbell sound and it doesn't ring on and on forever it just rings three times and then if they press it again, it rings again so it's not obnoxious
