Took a little bit of setting up as all planes do but once done very happy with the results.

all hand planes take some work,but......
Ok, all hand planes take some work straight out of the box,but this was a little more than "some". First, sole no where even close to flat..doesnt need to be 100% but even 85% would have been good, especially around the mouth...not even close, either side! Second...the machining on the frog face looked like a tractor and plough had run across it...terrible really, but ok, as long as the four contacts are all in touch....again one out of 4. So, be prepared to do a fair amount of work to get this Stanley plane even close to operational, and considering this is a brand new plane , it almost went back.It is almost worth considering buying a vintage version and restoring with the amount of work involved with this brand new plane, but, the question is,can you find a decent vintage version at the right price.

Very good tool
Sturdy, well built. Have been using it for a month now. Blade was sharp out of the box.

Not the useual Stanley quality.
This plane was badly finished off and it took me 3 hours to get it into corrrect working order. I would have returned it but i needed it urgently for a job before Christmas. It looked as if somebody else had had it before me and returned it.

Finally I can make almost transparent shavings. It requires some tuneup, but it's well worth it

just what was needed
I was used to hand tools my father being a carpenter, joiner and cabinet maker and having spent many hours with him using his tools. however there is nothing like the feel of wooden tools. My son has taken to wood working.musical instrument making to be precise, as a hobby and although having many of of his late grandfathers tools , a plane of this size needed to be replaced. There are many much more expensive ones which my purse did not stretch to at Christmas

Poor quality assurance
A very poor quality product. First one order arrived with the iron chipped. The second was so badly machined that it would not keep the iron square to plate. This is nowhere near the same quality as older Stanley planes
