The assembly was quick and easy once I realized the trick of holding the screw still with the allen wrench and turning the washer with the other, the screw holes all lined up, with it feeling very sturdy once all the screws were tightened. The cushion actually feels nice when you sit on it and it looks great, especially for the price. Highly reccomend this one over any other cheaper shoe benches out there. Works best for womens tennis shoes (or kids shoes), any larger or taller and it will only hold alot but for my purposes it worked well enough. I bought a second cheaper shoe storage to hold the odd shoes but this is the one everyone sees when they enter my home and I really love it.
