Review: At last, a fleet game that plays well solo too... - ...and I don't mean Han Solo either. The fleet actions that are possible from the starter box are interesting and often exciting, and even with only three small-to-medium ships, the epic feel of Star Wars is portrayed with amazing success. Gameplay is quick and smooth, and the rules easy to pick up while maintaining a good level of depth. Model quality is excellent and the playing aids are absolutely brilliant. No book keeping is required either. Had this game been released 15 years ago, the playing area would have been cluttered with sheets of paper and pens of various colours! Fantasy Flight has some real design geniuses working for them at the moment. Solo play is always important to me, and as a former hardcore board war gamer, brought up on Panzer Blitz and Advanced Squad Leader, I'd started to give up on being able to play games in the solo war gamer style. Star Wars Armada's lack of book keeping and limited hidden order feature means that it's much easier to maintain control of the game without being overwhelmed by paperwork (SFB, anyone?), and I found myself much more engaged with the tactics and theme throughout several back-to-back solo battles. The quality of the gameplay is very similar to a satisfying Star Fleet Battles match too. I've already ordered a second core set and additional ships from the First Wave expansions to expand the scale of the battles, and already the Second Wave's huge starships are looming on the horizon. Presumably the new movie will provide new ships for the Third Wave. Let's hope so! If anyone has any solo gaming questions about Star Wars Armada, feel free to ask.
Review: A-maze. - Yes, you do need to have at least 2 core sets to have a proper game (but you also need to have 2 people). Yes, it is expensive, but that depends on the frame of reference. Compared to Warhammer it's really not that much. It's ridiculous to criticise it for its price alone. The question is, is it worth it. The game mechanic is so much fun, hugely exciting and 'realistic'. The complexity is amazing. Perfect for a lazy afternoon with a fellow star wars geek.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it a trap?**
A: It is most definitely a trap of Awesomeness !

**Q: Is this an expansion set for the star wars x-wing miniature game or its own game entirely?**
A: It is an entire new game, complete with its own rule set. X-Wing is more about individual ships while Armada does the amazing job of replicating large scale combat. They are both highly tactical games, but they feel like different games due to the rule differences and the scale of the battle.

**Q: How much room does the game take to play? I see a board/map, some pieces, and what appears to be stat-cards for each ship. Do I need a large table?**
A: A core set beginner game needs a play area of 3'x 3', a full game requires a 3'x6'space. Add a another 6 in. for your ship cards and upgrades. It does need a slightly large table to play comfortably on, but I've played a game where the ship cards were slightly in the play area and it did not effect the game in any way.

**Q: Would buying a Imperial Victory Class Star Destroyer by it self come with any different cards than the starter set would of?**
A: Hi Brian,What an excellent looking question! Armada will be just like X-Wing releases, where the blister packs of a given ship--in this case the Victory Class--will come with different commander cards.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Top fun!

So, the first thing to get out of the way is the price, £60-70 is a lot to shell out if you are unsure about this product, that said the game is near enough ready to play out of the box (with a minor amount of assembly). You'll easily get hours of games out of this set alone, but as with any table top game, it really comes into its own with the additional expansion packs, which as I've seen so far, are actually very fairly priced. The game itself is incredibly easy to understand, after one quick practice game both myself and a friend pretty much had the rules covered. My single biggest gripe with this set is the number of dice you get, (3 black, 3 blue, 3 red) when there are multiple ship set ups and the fighters which each require 4 blue dice, sure you can reroll, but it would have felt more like a complete set with at least 4 of each dice. That said, a new set of dice is only about £6. I've already started to purchase several expansion ships and sets to see how this game gets going with more ships on the table.
