The lid is much lighter than the original cast iron lid of the casserole dish, so this could be a solution if you find the combined weight of cast iron pan and cast iron lid to be too heavy. The lid itself is very high quality, perfect blemish free glass and the metal rim around the outside is seamless. The handle can be removed with a philips screwdriver for thorough cleaning. My one complaint with the design is that underneath the metal rim can be difficult to clean. The Staub glass lids are preferable in that regard. The Le Creuset packaging is fairly robust and does protect the lid so there's less of a chance of it arriving broken.
