I’ve been on various sleep aides like melatonin, every brand of OTC sleep supplements, and Ambien dependency for the last 10 years. I had tried 5HTP years ago without success. I decided to try it again, only this time I did better due diligence on brand, purity and dosage. So I’ve been taking this for a couple of weeks now. I take one 200 mg dose before bed. I can’t say it has cured my insomnia, although I sleep about 3 hours straight now before I wake up. I also fall back to sleep quicker, like 20 minutes instead of 2 hours. BUT… it has has eliminated my nocturnal eating habit, where I would wake up and binge eat on cookies, bread, or anything with sugar, causing rapid weight gain. . I’VE LOST ALMOST 8 LBS IN 2 WEEKS! I’m much less hungry during the day, and not craving empty carbs. This was an unexpected yet welcome effect of the 5 HTP. Now here is the down side.
