I recently fell on my bottom with these on and the dense protective foam did its job and prevented both. It's not to say I did not feel the impact. I just didn't get the hip soreness or bruising. As far as fit is concerned I am a 5 ft 11 in 200 lb man with a 40 in waist. I purchased the 3xl and wear them under my pants. The fit at the waist is fine. There is some bagginess in the bottom but not so much that it bothers me when I move. These are so much less cumbersome than the budget hockey pants I tried on.
