## Description

One of Sigma's finest creations yet, this lens sets a new benchmark for performance, offering quality that exceeds expectations in every way. Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, our new Art line delivers superior image quality for high-level artistic expression. This new lens embodies the concept of our new Art lenses. Our Art line delivers high-level artistic quality Sigma is organizing all its interchangeable lenses into three product lines; Contemporary, Art and Sports. Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, our Art line delivers high-level artistic expression. Developed with the maximum emphasis on artistic touch, our Art line lenses are designed to meet the expectations of users who value a creative, dramatic outcome above compactness and multifunction. Along with landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-up and casual snaps, they're perfect for the kind of photography that unleashes the inner artist. Ideal for studio photography, they offer just as much expressive scope when capturing architecture, starry skies, underwater shots and many other scenes. The SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is the first lens from the Art line. Unsurpassed Optical Performance To actualise a high-performance lens, one of the essential elements is aberration correction. This lens incorporates FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements, and by optimizing the power alignment of the lens, both types of aberration have been corrected. The lens achieves ultra-high image quality through the entire focusing range. Also, by appropriate alignment of aspheric lenses, astigmatism and field curvature are corrected. The result is superior optimum resolution even in peripheral areas. Attractive blur effect Correction of coma aberration enabled less blur on a point light source in peripheral areas, and the function is best used for astrophotography and illuminations. It is also possible to create an attractive blur to the out of focus areas. The aspheric lens elements used as the first lens have secured peripheral brightness while correcting distortion. The rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image. Flare and ghosting conscious design In order to achieve high rendering on this flagship lens, flare and ghosting were thoroughly measured from an early stage to establish an optical design which is resistant to strong incident light such as backlight. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. Hyper Sonic Motor The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures high speed and quiet AF as well as full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring. With the enhanced AF algorithm, smoother AF is achieved. Brass made bayonet mount This lens incorporates a brass made bayonet mount which has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use. Ease of use The new product lines incorporate rubber for the attachment part of the provided lens hood. For better usability, the design of the lens cap and AF/MF changeover switch have been improved. In order to ensure high accuracy of the product, all metallic parts and the new compound material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has high affinity to metal parts, are housed internally. Evaluation with Sigma's own MTF measuring system “A1” Sigma used to measure lens performance with MTF measuring systems using conventional sensors. However, they have now developed their own proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system (A1) using 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensors. Even previously undetectable high-frequency details are now within the scope of their quality control inspections. All SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM lenses will be checked using the “A1” before they leave the factory. “Made in Japan” All Sigma's manufacturing, right down to moulds and parts is carried out under an integrated production system, entirely in Japan. Sigma is now one of the very few manufacturers whose products are solely “made in Japan”. Their sophisticated products have satisfied professionals and lovers of photography all over the world, because the manufacturing is based on genuine craftsmanship, underpinned by the passion and pride of their experts.

Review: Prime beauty - First off, a warning: Sigma still have terrible QC issues! The first copy of this lens I received was back focusing horrifically. I did all the usual tests, after initially noticing it wasn't sharp where I was pointing focus. And no, it wasn't user error just because it's a 1.4, like Sigma will try to make you believe! It was off, by a significant margin, so I sent it back to the supplier. They contacted Sigma, who told them, to tell me, the customer, to wait for them to check it out. Well, I wasn't having that and requested a new copy or a refund. fair play to the store for seeing it my way and sending on a new copy, they will deal with Sigma on the other. Anyway, now that I have a decent, proper focusing version, I can say that all the reviews around the net are bang on! It really is a gem of a lens. It's nice and weighty, being a 1.4, without being over-sized. It balances really well on the D800E, and looks the part too. Sigma have got their new look right, with lovely sleek lines, smooth polished steel, discreet markings, and the hood snaps into place definitively - the hood also has a rubber seal, which is a nice touch. Though the lens itself does not have sealing near the mount, shame ... but considering the price difference between this and the Nikon 35 1.4, we'll let that slide. So how does it perform? Admirably. It's sharp on focus point at 1.4, and stopped down to f/2 and beyond is as sharp as you'd like. there is strong vignetting wide open, but where the vignetting is, is going to be OOF/bokeh anyhow, and it's easily corrected in LR. There is no profile for this model in LR4 currently, but I found that sigma 24-70 is close enough, with minor manual adjusting. Vignetting has mostly gone by f/2.8 and the lens continues to sharpen right through to f/8. The perfect portrait/street/general purpose lens IMO, and even good for landscape. If you could only have one lens in your bag at all times, you could do a hell of a lot worse than choosing this. Just test when you get yours, and make sure it's a good copy.
Review: Highly recommended, great image and build quality - The Sigma 35mm 1.4 marks a significant step up in build and optical quality from previous Sigma efforts, they are really onto something with their Art range and this lens is certainly worth a look even if you've had issues with Sigma quality control in the past. I use this lens on a Nikon D750 and that combination really is a low light monster, if you can just about make something out in the dark this combo will lock onto it near instantly. Image quality is excellent, as you would expect you do get vignetting wide open but this is easily correctable in post (Lightroom has a preset for it), AF is silent and basically instant. Build quality is fantastic and although this lens isn't weather sealed, it is beautifully constructed. There really is very little reason to own the far more expensive Nikon or Canon L equivalent over this. Sharpness tests etc may suggest the 35mm 1.8 FX is up there with this lens, but what charts don't show you is how well this lens renders scenes, there is a lovely 3D pop to images that you simply will not see with the cheaper 1.8 options.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the focus ring have a strong stop at both ends?**
A: No stop, just keeps turning. Still an awesome lens.

**Q: I always use a 35 1.8 on my Nikon D7000. Will this be a worthy improvement for me?**
A: Hi Mominflorida,It will depend on what you shoot, honesty if you love shooting with the 35mm focal length it is a great upgrade if you want the extra sharpness and contrast however, The 35mm 1.8G is already a great travel lens to carry around. You have to keep in mind the Nikons 35mm 1.8G is half the weight of the Sigma 35mm meaning that it is not the best lens to travel around, its a big/heavy piece of glass 700g about. The Sigma Art in my mind perform superbly on high megapixel cameras. I am not sure how it would perform on a D7000. On the other hand if you only have the 35mm 1.8G you could pay the same amount for a different prime lens such as 85mm 1.8G which is also a great combo with the 35mm. In end if you are thinking of purchasing the Sigma 35mmART, I highly advise getting the usb dock since when I got mine, it had front focusing issues. Thats the bad part of 3rd party lens manufacturers majority of the lens have focus issues on almost every single camera body. hope it helps :)

**Q: How fast can I get my lens?**
A: Depends on zip code and shipping options you want to purchase. Usually within 3-5 days. Quicker for more money.

**Q: Is this a wide-angle lens?**
A: 35 mm is considered a wide-angle lens. This is a great lens. Buy with complete confidence. Thanks for asking, Ron

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Big in size and performance
*by R***A on 5 July 2014*

After using a Nikon 50mm 1.4 for around a year, I wanted to get a lens that was more usable indoors, as the 50mm tends to be too long for small places, like dinner parties, meetings, etc. After a lot of research, this 35mm was the best option I could find and I'm very glad I got to this conclusion and I found an great deal here in Amazon that couldn't resist. This lens is superb. With the 50mm I got used to shoot at 2.8 because of the softness when fully open, but I don't have that problem with this one, it is very sharp at its maximum aperture. Image quality is excellent in any condition I've used it so far. This includes sharpness, colour, contrast and even the blurred backgrounds (or bokeh, hate that word), which I read people finding it to be a bit nervous. Also, the build quality is very good, It is a rather large unit, but feels really sturdy and well put together, focus ring is firm but smooth and it has a shiny black ring near the mount that gives it a nice touch and feel.
