Mine are two years old and have been used to cut copper wire and plastic and remain razor sharp. I believe the cutting of ferrous material will dull the cutting edge but to what degree would depend on the usage. All I can say is that they are an amazingly tough pair of scissors which will serve you well if you look after them. **Q: Can these cut heave duty tape?** A: Yes, it cuts most things. I don't know how I got along without them before.
