I have a phobic daughter and we can cope with normal plant but not ones that specifically attract bees** A: I have lavender shrubs in the front garden and Lithodora Diffusa Heavenly Blue and many roses and clematis in my rear garden. I have seen hundreds of bees on the lavender, some on the roses and clematis. But I can honestly say, I have yet to see bees on the Lithodora Diffusa. It may well be that the other more showy and aromatic plants attract bees more readily that they show little or no interest on the Lithodora. I do hope this helps, but you could also reinforce to your daughter that bees will not sting anyone that leaves them alone - they die if they sting once, it is wasps that are the devils for stinging. If it helps bees tend to have rounded bottoms, where wasps have a more pointed bottom. Please do try and tell her that without our friends the bees the whole planet would die, it is they that pollinate all the plants we love to look at, those which we like to eat, and more importantly those we use to make medicines. I know how difficult it is for you as a parent, my daughter had a similar phobia, hang on in there and she will grow out of it if you persevere with the really good things that bees do for us. I had mine nearly two years and slug never came near it. **Q: Can they be grown in containers** A: Yes ..I have mine in a container and it's awesome ..it's been in flower since mid April ..Good thing is you can move it around the garden if in a pot **Q: Can I grow these near a pond/water feature?** A: I put mine in a south-facing border and it worked very well. They're pretty hardy plants so I imagine they could work near water but certainly not in a pond.
