I did tear the outer layer just a tiny bit pulling it with a rope I'd fish-taped through a confined crawlspace trench I had to hand-excavate. I have patience. I attached it to one flange from inside the home, the other from underneath. Both ends were easier than expected. This is a quality product, but fragile as you might imagine.
