UPVC Window Restrictor Hook. Child Lock Restrictor Safety Catch. This essential child safety device is designed to limit opening of a window to 100 mm. It can be released to facilitate full opening of the window, it automatically re-engages restricted position on closing of the window. This product is manufactured from steel C1008, silver trivalent finish to meet BS 1670:1998 grade. Easy fit onto window (screws provided). Designed to restrict outwards opening to 100 mm, designed for top or side opening windows. **Q: Has anyone managed to fit these on an outwards opening window from the inside? We live accross 3 floors so a ladder isn't ideal for outside access.**
A: You fit them inside, u don't need a ladder

**Q: I want to replace catches on windows in my house.  The precise distance between the holes on the frame is 8.5cm.  Will this product fit?**
A: Sean i did not remove any of the fittings,i simply fitted the new child safety locks as extra to prevent accidental opening the windows.

**Q: Can it be used for bottom opening windows?**
A: I have them fitted to my bottom opening windows to restrict them blowing out in the wind.Also a good security measure.

**Q: Please could you explain how to flip them so they can be used for the opposite hinged windows?**
A: OK, assuming you have windows which are hinged on one of the vertical sides of the frame.  Window 1: I fitted the Pin (smaller part) to the opening edge of the window frame opposite the hinge, and the hook part (larger part with spring loaded hook) to the fixed part of the frame to meet the Pin.  Window 2 (assuming "other hand", but everything else same), fit the Pin to the opening edge of the frame opposite the hinge.  Take the hook part and match it to the one you've just fitted to Window 1.  Then turn it 180 degrees (end over end) and 180 degrees (left to right).  You should now be able to attach the hook part to the fixed frame to meet the pin.The other way to do it is to fit the hook parts to the bottom of the fixed frames, and the Pin parts to the opening frame to meet the hooks.  Position the hooks as far as you can towards the bottom corners opposite the hinges, remember that when the hook is in the closed position, the bracket is longer, so before fitting, squeeze the hook flat with your fingers and make sure that there is enough room to fit it - otherwise the window will not close.

Some basic installation instructions would have been helpful but these restrictions are not too difficult to install.I fitted them to top hung openers (brand new Rehau uPVC framed windows) and once I figured out the best method I probably spent longer moving the ladder between windows than the actual fitting.Contrary to another reviewers advice to fit the stud first, I fitted the sprung arm first (to the casement). With that in place, there really was only one place for the stud to go, as the arm is then indicating the studs position - and that was the easy bit as the stud is fitted from inside.Your experience with non uPVC window, side openers or those without the “Euro slot” may be different.Although all my windows are the same, 4 of the five will need packers behind the stud to ensure the arm engages consistently - a job for next weekend. I noted (after the event) that another site sells a similar product complete with packers. It was be nice if this seller did that as many reviewers have found this an issue. Having said that, the supplied packers from the other site are of one size which may cause issues if clearance is tight.Whilst the material of these restrictors seems sturdy enough, I didn’t consider them a premium product and there is a far amount of slack in the sprung arm - this doesn’t help with engaging with the stud and hence the need for packers. The supplied screws do the job well despite them being fairly fine threaded - I would have expected a somewhat coarser thread. I piloted all holes before fitting the screws.It seems very easy to open the restrictors from the outside but as they are fitted to upstairs windows and it is unlikely we would leave the house with the main windows open, I don’t consider that a major issue.Overall, they work and should keep Building Control happy.I will also be recommending them to my brother-in-law who has a similar need with side hung windows.
