Review: Preparation is key! - Before you buy one of these make sure you can dig a hole deep enough to site it. Took me 4 goes to find a suitable spot, that's when you find out where all the building waste went when your house was built! ... I would also recommend buying an auger, so much easier and quicker than trying to use a spade and they only cost around £10 ... Once in the ground and in use it resembles something like 'poo soup' but I have to say there is no smell and it works well ... We have 2 dogs, 1 staffy and 1 bulldog, and as long as you do a patrol every day it copes fine ... Not something you would want to move so make sure you put it somewhere 'for life' ... If we move house I would definitely purchase another one

It's challenging to install, which may sound discouraging, but once it's in, you won't regret it. **Q: OK, This seems like such a waste. Doesn't dog poo decomponse on it's own in a few days? I can't see what value this brings to the natural process.**
A: I've had my unit for about 3 months and I love it!  2 boxers and a fair amount of waste.  Each week I flush the tank by adding about 5 gallons of fresh water, add the new waste and enzymes.  I use Rid X and sprinkle about a 1/4 cup of it on the fresh poop in the tank.  By the end of the week it has mostly turned to mush and gets flushed down the inner tube to the 4 foot dirt hole under the tank.  This is very much like flushing a toilet.  The enzymes in the poop in the dirt hole continue to breakdown and eventually become part of the soil.  Technically if everything is working correctly you should not ever need to move this unit.  It is important to keep the tank full of water and the poop submerged as that minimizes the smell and bugs.  Now if I could just teach my dogs to poop in that tank, I'd be all set!  :o)

**Q: Can this be used with cat feces?**

**Q: I've heard this doesn't do well in cold weather climates (below 40).  Is this true?**
A: The water in this metal bucket does freeze over rendering it useless in the cold winter months in Pennsylvania. Our frost line is 3’ below the ground surface.

**Q: How does it work, where does the poop go?**
A: Joseph is not giving accurate information. You definitely dig a 4 foot hole. In the pictures it even shows a diagram with the hole being 48 inches deep.

This device is a septic tank for dog poop. The tank holds water that is dosed with a special tablet that creates a bacterial soup that digests the lumps. There is a vertical waste pipe set in the bottom of the tank that maintains the depth of water. After adding each day's mess you add one gallon,(5ltrs) of water. This action washes out digested waste through the overflow pipe and agitates the contents. Once set up and working there is no smell apparent from the tank. All I have showing in my garden is the lid of the tank. The lid is opened with a toe and the poop is slid into the water. The only issue I had was digging the required hole 48" deep and 14" across. That was not an easy task for me, (at 75). A post hole tool may have made the job easier.
