Brexit no doubt! You will not get 100l of vermiculite for £20 but could get perlite for that! That is better for mixing for root growth but vermiculite is better for retaining water and for a seed cover when sowing in pots. **Q: Is there a risk of asbestos?** A: There was a risk upto the 1980s as Vermiculite used to be mined in areas that could contain Asbestos contaminants. However those contaminated sources of Vermiculite were closed in the 1980s following the discovery of asbestos fibers in vermiculite. Modern forms of vermiculite are unlikely to contain asbestos, due to updated mining and manufacturing techniques plus checks carried out by various health agencies. It thus poses less of a risk since the 1980s especially to those using potting mixtures.
