Just the job. Good service. **Q: will this work with oak logs?** A: Yes it will split oak logs, however if you put logs in that are a little too large the force needed makes the 'ratchet and pawl' (the mechanism that does the work) can get worn quickly and thereafter 'jumps'. It is fine for logs of say 3to 4 inch diameter and 8 inches long but go bigger and it will wear the ratchet. I have since been using a 'splitting maul' to much greater effect. **Q: does this only cut whole logs? I want to cut down pre cut logs that are too big for the burner. Does it do this?** A: It splits/cuts logs longways only up to bout 18 inches. Very efficient. **Q: Is this easy enough for a 60 yr old woman with arthritic hips and knees** A: I would think yes you could use it easily, however the logs you split need to be reasonably dry so they will split easily. I say this as some of my logs were damp and some had knots and branch spurs in them, this made it difficult to split and therefore quickly wore the ratchet underneath allowing the mechanism to 'jump'.
