You can hear sounds around you, unless you wear ear protection. These would be great in a working environment where you have to wear protection ear buds, because you would still be able to hear your music. I think the benefit of these is that it wont damage your ear drums like headphone ear buds can. They fit pretty relaxed on head, over hears...but I have a large head so a little in way, my wife didn't have that problem. I like wearing these in office so can hear my music but be 100% aware of rest of stuff going on.
