Each book is incredibly well written, full of actions and suspense, and full of a number of cliches as well. I found that the first two books were probably the best of the three. The last one wasn't terrible, but it didn't seem to hold my attention as much as the first two.The trilogy does an amazing job of showcasing the culture of Nehekara which I found to be more interesting than most of the characters themselves. It also does a good job of showing Nagash's sheer depravity and lack of humanity as he seeks to uncover the secrets of unlife. The series introduces a number of character both throwaway and important to Warhammer lore, yet does a fine job of making both types of characters feel intriguing and equally important to the story.Of course, it wouldn't be a Warhammer book if it didn't feature the horrors of war, and NO SPOILERS HERE, there is a gruesomely heavy amount of sheer carnage and battle that takes place. The author really keeps your attention while he narrates these wide-scale battles where it's more about the generals' state of mind, decisions, and tactics rather than just a meat-grinding slog for the sake of carnage.Overall, I'd recommend this series. It is full of a couple of cliches, and some tedious moments in the final book, but I feel in its entirety it is well worth the purchase. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Filled in a lot of the gaps *by J***K on Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2017* A very strong collection, this shows a lot of the background on Nagash, the start of the vampire, and the creation of the Lands of the Dead. Well worth picking up for anyone interested in WH Fantasy. Also found the short story to be a good read, which isn't always the case.For some reason, I thought that Nagash was directly responsible for the creation of vampires. That being said, he was pretty much the single most evil sucker that every lived. And does he prove it.Wasn't a great fan of the Skaven portrayl, they felt more like rat skinned humans. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Super small print *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019* The book is like a brick.
