You're still likely to find me barefoot or in flip-flops most of the time. But sometimes you just need something that looks good with a skirt in December, when flip-flops are a bit unseasonal even in coastal Texas. So I was excited to see these soft, flat shoes that look like ballet flats, but with a wide comfortable toe box.I had a previous pair of FitKicks of the standard "water shoes" shape, so I knew how comfortable they could be. Unfortunately, those developed a hole alongside my pinkie toe on one side, and they don't look good with a skirt.I typically wear a size 8 or 8.5 women's shoe, so I hesitated over whether to get the Medium or Large crossover FitKicks. I tried out Medium first, and unfortunately they were just a tad too small. I wore them several times (enough that I wasn't going to return them), but after a while my toes would feel pinched. The toes on these are reinforced, which I really appreciate... I'm hoping they won't develop holes... but that makes it all the more important to get a good fit.I solved the problem by regifting the Mediums to my mom (whose feet are a little smaller than mine) and getting myself a Large pair. As I suspected, they do fit me a little bit more loosely than I'd like, especially around the heel. But thankfully, I can wear them comfortably and they don't fall off my feet. I REALLY appreciate having something comfortable and enclosed to wear in "cold" weather (as much as we ever get around here). My boyfriend was immediately drawn to them and bought a pair. They are a lot like dance shoes. I would say they're a very very similar to jazz and ballet shoes. The nylon upper is breathable and flexible and the soles are great and sturdy. I think that the sizing is a little bit big. They seem to stretch with wear. I looked online and found them in the style that I chose and purchased them right away. They were fantastic for summer! Definitely cool in the water and on land. My main complaint is that the uppers are not tough enough. We wore them almost every day in different situations and both of us had snags within a very short time. My boyfriend bought a second pair that he is trying to keep nice. I want a second pair too but I'm worried that they will just snag like the ones I have. They still look good and feel fine but I'm bummed about the integrity of the nylon. I think that they are great for purposes of dance, floor exercises, stretching and the like. They fit comfortably with or without socks or tights If you plan to wear them every day as normal shoes they should be worn carefully. The soles are thin enough that you can feel things on the ground through them. Not in a way that would hurt you but definitely you can feel stones and sticks etc. I wear a size 9 and 1/2 women's and If I do buy another pair in the future I will get a size smaller. The only other complaint I have is that the insoles do not stay put. I think that with a bit of adhesive it would be fine. My boyfriends don't seem to have that problem, perhaps it is my feet. Please both put our shoes through the laundry but not the dryer.
