I knew we needed something u-shaped because her hair is crazy thick (her ponytail is 1+" across in diameter and growing). So I searched and searched and found these. The other pins we had always scratched her head and there were few days she wasn't in tears because of it. The nylon coating made me extra interested to try them. There are no tips on them, so those breaking off isn't a worry, either - the nylon coating completely wraps the entire pin from end to end. As an added bonus, the nylon coating also helps the pins grip the hair so they don't slide out on their own. The coating feels thick - I'm not afraid it'll wear off easily or quickly. The wire is a decent gauge, so I'm not worried about their being easily misshapen and thus rendered useless.We're now two weeks into my daughter's using these and not a single one has shot out of her bun. There are no tears when I put them in. In fact, she keeps commenting on how painless the entire process is and how she can barely tell when I'm putting them in. The pins also came with step-by-step instructions (including hand drawings of each step) for two different types of buns (see photos), which come in really handy when you're "doing-your-daughter's-hair impaired" as I am.If you're looking for hair pins that are actually pain-free and comfortable to use, try these!
