**Q: 100% food safe; i assume this means it's been oiled with mineral oil? Is that right? How is it to be cared for?**
A: I also bought this as a gift but I would if it was for me wash the wooden surface before using it and the rub in olive oil and repeat after each use

**Q: can someone tell me the width of the piece underneath that acts as the turning mechanism?**
A: Can’t remember. All I do remember is that it doesn’t work. Cheaply made and does not work. I ordered two (1 being a replacement) Both useless. Both returned.
