I use a couple of drops of citronella oil on the outside of our bedroom door at night to stop our cat scratching on it (for those that don't know cats hate citrus scents). This oil works perfectly for this purpose. It is very pungent and the smell does linger for 24-48 hours after using. The oil is in a 10ml bottle with a dropper top so only a drop comes out at a time, meaning 10ml will last for ages.
