## Description

Anubis is the Greek name of a god associated with mummification and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion, usually depicted as a canine or a man with a canine head. One of the roles of Anubis was as the "Guardian of the Scales." The critical scene depicting the weighing of the heart, in the Book of the Dead, shows Anubis performing a measurement that determined whether the person was worthy of entering the realm of the dead.

Review: Low quality staff piece, but still very pretty - Another great piece from Toscanini! The only thing I’ll say about this figurine is that the chains to hold the heart and feather plates are twisted when I received them and still won’t sit right. Think I’ll try to take it apart and get it to look right, but it’s almost to pretty to mess with. I also wish the staff to hold the chains were metal instead of plastic. If you weren’t sure where to open the styrofoam when unboxing, you might break this piece. Still beautiful though.

**Q: How do you put the scales on the staff?**
A: the statue has a hole on its hand. you put the staff thru it and the scales are place at the ends. hope this helps.

**Q: Mines came detached, and wont fit around the end of the horizontal staff ends**
A: Mine is broken .....I am returning it ....between you and me it is cheaply made. Joe

**Q: How hard is it to use actual hieroglyphics and not made up scribble?**
A: I guess pretty hard. Maybe they're protecting us stupids from resurrecting him in our homes and preventing us from doing some kind of cosmic crime? Who knows. All i know is he looks pretty great, i thought it was pretty cool. One of the cooler ones i found at the time that wasnt ridiculously priced. You could probably get some sculpting clay and put it over the base to get your correct heiroglyphs that you want. Paint it once its dry. Or even glue some cardstock over it, the base is pretty flat. If it doesnt fit your need, make it fit! :)

Not 'exactly' as shown, for example there's no gold detail on the pole & cross member of the scales and the 'feather' is just a green blob. A little touch of gold paint solved these wee niggles and a small real feather tacked to the bowl finished it off. All in all worth the money including postage from the U.S. to Scotland. Very happy with purchase.
