When the fence is switched on you simply place the metal bar, situated on the back of the device, onto the wire, press the button on the front and the light indicator pulsates to the voltage level, thereby letting me know that the electrical current is running through the wire. It is that simple. The size is about 2 inches long and fits easily into the hand. A little word of warning, when holding it on the wire, be careful not to allow your fingers to slip under and inadvertently touch the live wire, it does smart a bit if this happens but you will survive!!!
