These are typically less expensive than 304 grade as manufacturers essentially substitute manganese for nickel. Although food safe, they are not as resistant to corrosion and not as high quality as 304 grade. I wanted a high quality stainless steel set. I received the bowls and examined carefully. I liked the thickness and luster so I decided to purchase a second set. After few weeks of usage the bowls started to develop shallow dents. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy something again from the seller. They promptly shipped us another set of bowls to try. I’ve waited a little while to update my review so we could give them a try, The next set arrived in much better, new condition unlike the first set. I immediately noticed that I could not separate the rubber from the bowl like we could in a few bowls of the first set, which means water cannot get trapped between the rubber and bowl. I am taking one star off still for the rubber bottoms retaining odors. You absolutely have to wash the bowls immediately and dry them. We’ve had better luck with this set since we’re aware of the issue so we know to take better care of them. After receiving the first set dented up, I also feel like they will dent pretty easily. We do love the lip on them to hold them, the size and depth of the bowls is perfect for whipping, and the non skid bottoms.I really wanted to like these - they had the features I was looking for. After 17 years of marriage, most of our kitchen items we started out with have seen better days so I’ve been slowly updating everything in my kitchen. I want the highest quality possible now that I can splurge for it because I want it to last longer and not have to update again down the road. That prompted me to research for weeks. I considered the more expensive name brands and didn’t have an issue with paying more for quality but the reviews seemed to be filled with disappointment and they all came with only a few bowls. I looked at all the different materials (plastic, glass, porcelain, stainless) and decided I wanted stainless for easy cleanup, longevity, and less breakage with kids. I liked the idea of getting more sizes and the non-slip bottoms with this set, especially considering my kids. These had good reviews and were not the cheapest on Amazon so I finally pulled the plug. For the price, I wasn’t expecting All-Clad quality stainless by any means. But I was expecting them to be new and last past a week.So onto my review of the product....When we first opened the box, my entire family noticed a very horrid smell. It was overpowering and gagging - it smelled strongly of feces. My husband rushed them out the back door. We had hoped it was just the rubber bottoms and the smell would dissipate. However, I also noticed right away the bowls had water spots all over, the large one was severely dented and had a quarter sized rust stain on outside of it, which told me the set we received had been used. In hopes the smell would go away, we left them outside on our patio for a day. In hindsight, we should have immediately put them in the box and sent them back. Instead, my husband wasn’t thinking and threw the box out to get rid of the smell. So there went our chance to return them.Fast forward a few days and my husband picked them up and sniffed the bottom of a bowl, to verify it was the rubber smelling. He noticed the first one didn’t smell but we could still smell the overpowering stench. Come to find out, it was one single bowl emitting the smell (second to largest) so we ended up throwing it away. The smell was just too much - both of us literally gagged. Since we were stuck with them, we decided to clean up the rest. With the help of some Bar Keepers, I removed the rust and water spots. My husband and I both used a couple.We did like:The small lip to grab the side of the bowlThe amount of bowls (minus the one we had to trash right away)How deep all the bowls areThe shape is perfect for easier whiskingUnfortunately, my husband threw one into the sink and didn’t pay attention to the fact it landed in a pot I was soaking to remove stuck on food. We ran off to my kids activities and admittedly, the dishes didn’t get done until the next morning (so I’ll take full responsibility for ruining the next bowl but pointing out the lack of quality). When I picked it up to wash it the next morning, I once again noticed a foul odor. We came to the conclusion the rubber on the bottom retains bacteria and smells. We tried everything from soaking it in Odoban to bleach and the smell did not come out. Plus, there were sections where the rubber wasn’t attached all the way down to the edge, which allowed food and water to get under the rubber. More than likely, the one bowl that originally arrived with the offending odor had been left in something as well. With the large bowl already dented when it arrived, we also felt they were fragile and felt we had to be extra cautious not to farther dent them.In the end, these went to the trash in less than a week of owning them. You *must* immediately wash and dry these to avoid the rubber retaining smells. I know many of you are probably saying “well duh”, but for busy families like ours with kids in different activities and such, doing the dishes every single night isn’t always realistic no matter how hard we try (they are always done within 8 hours but sometimes not immediately). We have a competitive gymnast that trains till 9:30 pm an hour away 5 days a week and twins in their own activities - we’re exhausted during this stage of our lives and our reality is the dishes won’t always get done immediately. So for our current lifestyle, these are not practical - we need something a little hardier where we don’t have to worry about the rubber soaking in crud or getting dented up.
