Review: Pleasantly surprised - No ghost writer here! “Elvis” is quite a good writer, and I found his behind the scenes insights to be thoughtful and interesting. I knocked off one star for the occasional overemphasis on tales of drunken idiocy, but even this was explained by the end of the book as part of the F1 culture of the time in question. The story behind the Alonso/Lewis feud during the 2007 season is worth the price of the book by itself.

As a fan of F1 I enjoyed this book. I’ve always been curious what the life of a team mechanic was like, and although things have changed since the authors time in the sport it was still an interesting read. As a Hamilton fan I especially enjoyed the insight on Hamiltons rookie season at McLaren
