Review: Acoustic guitar strings - Guitar strings, Ernie Ball. Nothing more to say really, good quality.
Review: First impression: I really like these strings - I've heard good things about these strings, and I thought I'd try them out as replacements for a set of D'Addario phosphor bronze EJ16 strings. Both sets of strings were medium light (12s). I was using a Faith Naked Mercury - a mid-range parlour sized guitar, which I mainly use for picking (a little strumming with fingers, but I don't generally use a plectrum). I don't know how this review would translate to a larger bodied guitar (but I intend to try them on a couple). My first impressions: I really like the tone. They don't have that jangly new sound of freshly changed strings, which doesn't really work well for my style of play. I'm not sure I'd describe them (as some others have) as "bright". They seem to have a fairly earthy sound to them. Good across the tonal range. Plenty of clarity, but not really brightness. They're a delight to play: responsive and tactile. I don't do much string bending, so can't comment on that. If you're doing simple fingerpicking (folk, blues, etc), these are definitely worth a shot. I've only had them on a day, so we'll have to see how they age (both in terms of tone and longevity), but, to be honest, the D'Addario strings were not great in that respect (and I don't like the Elixir nanocoated ones, which are long lasting but have that weird slippery feeling).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do the medium guage have ball ends on the strings.?**
A: Actually a tiny ring. Works the same. On my acoustic, I just push it down a hole behind the bridge and a peg holds it in place. I've been using Ernie Ball strings since the 70's and they have always been like this.

**Q: Would this guage be suitable for Gibson Acoustic guitar with 12-53 guage?,would Ihave to widen nut slots?**
A: Hi there, these should fit on your Gibson no problem.

**Q: Do these sets have a plain or wound G?**
A: Hi thereIt's a very thin wound stringThanksRockem

**Q: Would these be any good for a 3 string cigar box guitar?**
A: This instrument is an Appalachian dulcimer. You can hear one played on Joni Mitchell "Blue", opening track, They have three strings or sometimes three double-course arrangements or a variant of this. Any guitar strings will be OK for length but you need to decide the gauge yourself - depends on how you tune it. Start with a wound "D", a wound "G" and a plain "B" or "E". Buy these separate rather than sets. If you don't know how to tune it - Google or listen to Joni Mitchell's "Blue" and Fairport Convention "Unhalfbricking" has a track with featured dulcimer.
