I've used Tripplite surge protectors for years, and recently researched the latest UL 1449 edition 3 changes (ok, that edition came out in 2008; sorry for the delay). My general surge protector buying advice: 1. Look carefully for a low number for Voltage Protection Rating (VPR, which is new terminology in the edition 3 spec). This is often called the let-thru or clamping voltage. Lower is better; less voltage from the surge reaching your equipment. 400 Volts VPR is the best i've seen. TRAVELER3USB has it. I don't know how critical it is to protect all three wires (Line to Neutral, Line to Ground, Neutral to Ground) but i'd rather have them all protected. TRAVELER3USB protects them all at 400 V. 2. The plug adapter still works. The hotel had no problem turning the electricity back on for me and that plug still worked. But the Trip Lite failed. And I wasted my money; I can’t return it because I’m on a month long trip in East Africa and past the return window. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Charges two phones and is great for travel *by J***D on April 19, 2012* I've seen some people complain that the USB ports aren't powerful enough to charge multiple devices (mostly involving tablets), but my girlfriend and I both charge our smartphones with this every night and it works fine. I have an HTC Sensation and she has an iPhone 4. It's only rated for 1 Amp between both devices so it probably doesn't charge as fast as two OEM chargers would, but since we leave them plugged in all night anyway they always get a full charge. It also makes it much easier when we travel. Instead of having to keep track of multiple chargers we can just take this along and it works for all of our gadgets. We can charge phones at night, cameras and other stuff during the day, and plug both our laptops in as needed. This has the added benefit of surge protection for all our expensive electronics wherever we go, since hotels rarely have surge protectors. It has solid construction and wraps up nice and compactly.
